Saras’ journey to Heavy Sales Executive at Westar Trucks is a story of steady growth, transferable experience and strong mentorship.
He entered the trucking industry in 2021 after beginning his career in hospitality, bringing with him a people first mindset that would later become a strength in sales. Prior to joining Westar, Saras spent four years as a Senior Service Advisor, managing major fleet customers and building a deep understanding of trucks from the service side.
In February this year, Saras officially stepped into Westar as a Heavy Sales Cadet. Just ten months later in December, he was promoted to Heavy Sales Executive. An achievement that reflects both performance and potential. Over that period, he delivered six heavy trucks, with ten sold in total, proving his ability to convert knowledge into results.
Joining Westar came with less of a learning curve than expected. Saras says his truck knowledge was easily transferable, and the experience he gained in service helped him straight into his new role. Saras says he is happy with what he does and that it felt like the right fit.
Mentorship has played an important role in Saras’ journey. He credits Westar’s Heavy Sales Manager, Alen Fak, as his biggest influence, describing him as someone he can speak to openly and rely on for answers, no matter the situation. That support has been instrumental in building his confidence in sales.
What Saras enjoys most about working at Westar is the culture. He describes the workplace vibe and the team he works with as a highlight, noting there are five people in particular he genuinely loves working alongside.
One of his proudest moments so far was the recent delivery of a Western Star 48X to Alpha Linehaul. His first Western Star sale. Beyond the milestone itself, Saras took pride in how the truck was built, making the most of the truck customisation process that Westar offers.
Like any transition, moving from service to sales has not been without its challenges. While his service background provided a strong foundation, Saras admits sales is a different ball game. It requires an understanding of regulations, customer use cases and vehicle compatibility. He says he is still learning to this day, and that mindset is exactly what is driving his continued success.
With a solid foundation, strong support and a clear passion for the role, Saras’ promotion marks just the beginning of what is shaping up to be a promising career in heavy sales at Westar Trucks.
