In a relatively short period, Little Rock Civil has become a major player in municipal road construction works. The company was formed in 2008 by Director Dean Biancon and wife and Operations Manager Shelly, who have 35 years experience in the civil construction industry.
Today the company has twenty staff offering an extensive portfolio of services that include road construction and reconstruction, full land development, sub divisional construction, kerbing, drainage works and traffic management. The company carries out work throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional areas of Victoria, with one of their main customers being Hobson’s Bay City Council.
Using its skilled workforce and extensive range of quality equipment, the company can have three separate construction crews operating independently under central management.
The company prides itself on its service levels, quality of work and attention to detail. “Little Rock is well known for having the highest level of integrity in its business dealings. Our mission is to ensure that every day, in everything we do we maintain and build on this reputation of integrity,” Administration Manager Jackie McElroy said.
“Staff training is something we invest in heavily; this enables our staff to have complete knowledge of the intricate issues that surround our industry and maintains a focus on safety. This in turn ensures the highest level of competency in all areas of project operation and management is achieved on every job,” Jackie said.
“We approach each project on an individual basis, adhering to best practice; many hours will go into researching what will be the best option to get the job done whilst ensuring that quality is maintained and the environment is protected. Over the years we have developed methods which minimise time-consuming delays and re-works,” Jackie went on to say.
Little Rock has a fleet of trucks and utes including a Western Star in a dog and tipper configuration that was purchased from Westar, where it is also serviced. “We’ve dealt with Westar for a number of years and have always been impressed with their service. They maintain a number of the trucks for us and the service department has always been fantastic,” she added.
It was this connection with Westar that led Dean to look at and eventually purchase an Iveco Daily Dual Cab for the business. But this is no ordinary Iveco Dual Cab – it was a special order from the factory, custom designed to suit the company’s specific needs.
The vehicle is unique; it has an extra long wheelbase and an oversized tool box that can accommodate an extensive range of hand tools and spare parts. Other features of this one-off vehicle include driver controlled diff locks, ECAS rear air suspension, a reversing camera, tinted windows and additional driving lights. The body was custom built by Elite Truck Bodies, the bullbar by Whitlock Bullbars and the signwriting was done by TFI Group in Laverton North.
The powerful yet fuel efficient 3.0 litre diesel engine features a twin turbo offering an impressive 205 hp/470 Nm torque coupled to the market-leading ‘Hi-Matic’ 8-speed full automatic transmission.
“The comfort is great, it’s like driving a car and my guys love it. With a long drop-side tray on the back coupled with its ability to carry 6 people, it’s a true multi-purpose vehicle. We don’t advertise, so the signage on our vehicles work as mobile billboards promoting the company; the new Iveco really does stand out,” Dean said.
“But the best thing about our new Iveco is its versatility; it provides us with more flexibility thereby delivering excellent operational cost efficiencies, which will ultimately benefit our customers,” Dean summed up.
With Victoria’s population rapidly growing and the resultant need for additional infrastructure it looks like Little Rock Civil has a big future ahead.
