The company now operates ten Isuzu vehicles that each perform a vital role in business operations. “Isuzu is our brand of choice,” Company Director Mark El Hawli said. “They are suited to the work we undertake and are very reliable; that’s why we use them and have done so for quite a while,” he added.
The company was established in 2001 by sole-owner Mark El Hawli and is a family owned and operated business with over 36 years of combined experience in the industry. Mark started with one truck and has grown to now operate 16 whilst employing close to 50 staff. The company services metropolitan Melbourne from Werribee to Hampton and undertakes work in the commercial, residential and industrial sectors.
They utilise & hire a wide variety of bins to suit the appropriate customer project, ranging in sizes from 4 cubic metre to 30 cubic metre bins. The Bin Hire component of the company was the first to be established. As the business grew, they also slowly expanded into a complementary sector - demolition. “Although we moved into demolition at a later date, it now makes up about 70% of our total business,” Mark stated. It was an expansion that has paid off – Melway Bin Hire & Demolition is now one of Victoria’s leading demolition and dismantling companies.
There is no job too big or too small for the company. Their commercial demolition projects vary from tearing down buildings, retail establishments and warehouses to stripping down office spaces. Their domestic/residential demolition work is highly regarded by builders for their speed and professionalism whilst offering ‘peace of mind’.
The business also undertakes much smaller projects, such as demolishing garages, extensions and internal rooms by hand; the aim is to get in and get the job done quickly and efficiently. “What’s more, the fact that we undertake both demolition and the subsequent waste removal saves valuable time, resources and money. It’s a two bird one stone scenario,” Mark assured.
The head office is located in Craigieburn and occupies an area of 8 acres, which incorporates their Transfer Station. Mark employs several mechanics at the site and as such, regular maintenance of both the bins and trucks occurs on-site. As Mark is environmentally conscious, at the Transfer Station the team sort and recycle building materials to divert waste going to landfill. This is testament to the company’s care and attention for the environment.
Mark is a fan of Isuzu, having bought the first for the company back in 2007 – a Gigamax that is still going strong and part of the fleet today. The vehicles’ reliability and endurance convinced Mark to purchase more over time. They now operate two Prime Movers used to transport demolition equipment, five Twin-Steers, two 6x4s, and one 4x2. The Twin-Steers, with their hook lifts, have been a big hit with the company, enabling substantial loads to be moved.
Mark has bought all his trucks from Westar and most recently has dealt with Sales Manager Jason Cugley. “I am happy with Jason; dealing with him is easy and straightforward,” Mark praised. “All in all, Westar have been a pleasure to deal with and have always done an excellent job,” he addedMark credits the success of his business on a number of factors. Mark says, “It’s a mix of hard work, risk and keeping customers happy. There are no short cuts in this business; we ensure that we work from the heart and do the job correctly every time,” he continued. “Growth is not something you can control; we will keep doing the right thing and customers will continue to come through the door,” he concluded.
